Coalers will host Normal U-High in first round football playoff game

The Illinois High School Association has released the brackets for this year’s football playoffs and Coal City will host Normal University High School [U-High]  in the first round. The game will be played Friday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.

The Coalers, under the leadership of Francis Loughran, enter the Class 4A playoffs  with a  7-2 record and are the 8th seed. The U-High Pioneers  have an identical regular season record and come into the postseason as the 9th seed.

This is the 33rd playoff appearance for the Coaler football program, a tradition that began in 1987 under the leadership of Ken W. Miller.

The last time a Coaler team faced Normal U-High  was 20 years ago—2003-2004 season—and the Coalers came out on top [35-7] in that contest.
