Coalers participate in Manufacturing Day

Manufacturing Day is a community supported, career exploration day created for high school students to explore the field of manufacturing. MFG Day, an initiative of the Manufacturing Institute, is  officially observed on the first Friday of October and in Illinois the state’s  Manufacturers’ Association observes Manufacturing Month.

In observance of MFG Day, the Three Rivers Manufacturers’ Association [TRMA] in collaboration with Three Rivers Education Partnership  and Joliet Junior College hosted the annual MFG Day on the college’s main campus Tuesday, Oct. 3. Taking part in the activities of the day were 54 career and technical education students from Coal City High School.

The day began with a keynote  address by Jailen Bey, an outreach and recruitment/marketing coordinator. The students also heard from representatives of TRMA and Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant.  Following the opening  program students participated in three rounds of display presentations on various topics within the field of manufacturing. The day closed out with a game of Jeopardy.

The Coal City students in attendance were among 750 high schoolers who participated in the event.
