Knowledge and confidence soaring in kindergarten

The students in Mrs. Wren and Miss Jackman’s co-taught kindergarten class have been working so hard on adding within 10! They have been working on building their number sense through a variety of activities that include counting, putting numbers in order, and various addition strategies.

“Our students have gained so much knowledge and their confidence has really started to soar,” Mrs. Wren said, adding, “Each day in our morning meeting we incorporate a variety of number sense activities along with a brief number talk.”

Topics include patterns, skip counting, finding number pairs, or creating number sentences.

“It really has helped increase our math vocabulary and basic understanding of concepts being taught during our math block,” the teacher added.

During November and December, the class incorporated more partner activities to deepen their content knowledge and practice working together to take turns.

“We are so proud of the growth our students have made through the use of fun, meaningful activities that feel like play,” Mrs. Wren said.
