Coal City High School Bands celebrate the season with music

 

 

Coal City High School Bands presented the  annual holiday concert featuring the Concert, Symphonic and Jazz Bands, along with the Percussion and Brass Ensembles.. 

 

The jazz band is composed of 35 student musicians. For the winter concert, the group performed two songs—”Deck the Halls” and “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year.” 

 

Members of the Percussion Ensemble presented “Holiday Favorites,”  and the Brass Ensemble provided transition music between the various groups. They started with “Santa Wants a Tuba for Christmas,” which featured vocals by member Martin Ramirez. They also presented “Jingle Bells Forever,” “In the Bleak Midwinter,” and “Cantina Band.”

 

The 25-member Concert Band was accompanied by Mason Hamilton as narrator  in “A Christmas Tale: Between the Krampus,” and closed with “The Polar Express Medley.”

 

Members of the  Symphonic Band presented selections from the popular holiday movie “Home Alone,” and “Sleigh Ride.”

 

The Concert Band then joined with the Symphonic Band a medley of holiday favorites from Irving Berlin. The band was accompanied by a vocal octet.

 

The high school instrumental music program is directed by Annie Ternes.

 

The winter concert season continues  with the Coal City Middle School Band concert on Tuesday, Dec. 16 and Middle School Choral Concert on Thursday, Dec. 18. Both concerts will begin at 7 p.m. in the Coal City Performing Arts Center.  Additionally, the  annual Coal City High School Madrigal performances will take place on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. The doors for both performances will open one hour prior for a reception featuring small bites and tasty desserts. The cost is $12 per person, cash at the door.
