Mr. Unger is an “excellent teacher who makes math and learning interesting,” said one of the many Coal City High School students who nominated him as the December Teacher of the Month.
The program to recognize outstanding educators at the school was established by Educators Rising, a career and technical student organization for future educators. Students say he always offers help and is a great teacher who is also great at explaining the material he is teaching.
Mr. Unger is a member of the school’s math department and teaches Geometry, Advanced Geometry, Advanced Algebra II, Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry.
“He has a very unique and fun way of teaching that really keeps me involved in class,” said a student, and another shared, “he chooses to spend his free time helping students who need it.”
Along with his teaching duties, Mr. Unger serves as a facilitator for the Before School Assistance Program [BSAP] and After School Assistance Program [ASAP], sponsors the Ping Pong Club and serves as a tennis coach. Additionally, he is a supporter of all things Coaler including athletics, arts and academics.
