The winter concert season is well underway and the fifth grade Beginning Band and sixth grade Cadet Band took the stage Thursday evening to showcase what they have been learning and the notes they have been perfecting. The evening also included vocal selections from the fifth grade class.
The Dec. 4 concert began with the fifth graders who presented four vocal selections centered on the theme of 200’s Pop. The songs included “Unwritten,” “Beautiful Day,” “Life is a Highway,” and the concert also included a secret song only the students and their music teacher Mrs. Becky Bajt knew when they took the stage. A variety of students were selected to help introduce the songs and several others contributed designs featured on the concert program.
Coal City Intermediate School’s fifth grade Beginning Band took the stage for their first concert. The students started playing their instruments at the start of the school year, and have made great progress since their first meeting. The instrumentalists presented nine numbers and were joined on stage by guest conductor, Mr. Leve, one of their fifth grade teachers.
Members of the sixth grade Cadet Band then took the stage to present five numbers, four of those served to get the audience in a holiday mood. Those tunes included “Sleigh Ride,” “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” “ Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” and “Let it Snow! Let it Snow!, Let it Snow!”
Coal City’s Beginning and Cadet Bands are directed by Mr. Andrew Brimm.
