This agreement is expected to carry him through to his retirement from the district. The contract includes an annual salary of $183,327 and provides for 6 percent credible earnings raise each year.

Mr. Spencer began his career in the Coal City School District in 1998 as a Physical Education and Driver Education teacher at Coal City High School. In 2006, he transitioned to the role of part-time Dean of Students, serving both the high school and Coal City Middle School. He was appointed principal of the Coal City Early Childhood Center in 2010, and in 2013 became principal of Coal City Elementary School. In 2015, he returned to lead both the Early Childhood Center and the Elementary School. Mr. Spencer moved back to Coal City High School in 2018 as associate principal and was named principal the following year. In 2022, the Board of Education appointed him Superintendent of Schools.

Upon completing this new contract, Mr. Spencer will conclude a 33-year career spent entirely within the Coal City School District.

Following the Board’s approval, Mr. Spencer publicly thanked the Board for its continued support and the opportunities he has been given throughout his career. He also expressed his gratitude to the District 1 administration, faculty, staff, and the broader community for their partnership and support, and shared his appreciation for the opportunity to finish his career as Superintendent of the Coal City School District.
