October is Fire Safety andFire Prevention month, commemorating the Great Chicago fire of 1871. Our school district is lucky enough to have an amazing fire department willing to come teach and engage little learners in how to be safe if a fire ever occurs. The firefighters talked about their gear, their rig, read a story, and explained to the students that fire safety is important, no matter where you are!
“We of course have talked about how to be safe at school, but not every parent has had the conversation about what to do at home,” Miss Clavenna said, adding, “This was a great opportunity for each student to understand the importance of keeping ourselves safe and learn something new –isn’t that what school is for anyways?“
The students brought their learning from outside the classroom back in and
completed a Scholastic news and each student made their own badge, really sealing the deal for these young fire cadets.
