Fire Prevention Month brings firefighters to schools

October is Fire Prevention Safety Month and it provides the perfect opportunity for the Coal City Fire Protection District and Coal City School District to team up on teaching fire safety.

Students at Coal City’s  Early Childhood Center, Elementary School and Intermediate Schools are receiving visits by members of the Coal City Fire Department. The firefighters are teaching  on various fire safety topics such as the importance of smoke detectors and having a family evacuation plan.

Coal City Fire Lt. Josh Eddy and his helpers provided answers to a variety of questions during their recent visit with Coal City Elementary and Intermediate School students. The students were also able to get an up close look at some of the equipment firefighters use in their work, and take a walk through the bucket of the fire department’s ladder truck.

A visit to the early childhood center is planned for this week.
