Coal City Middle School Band Director Mr. Brimm shares that it has been a busy start to the school year for the Coal City Middle School Marching Coalers.
The band prepared Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” for the Coal City High School Homecoming Parade and the Grundy County Corn Festival Parade that were held Sept. 26 and Sept. 28 respectively.
At the Grundy County Corn Festival, the Marching Coalers received third place in Class A with a 64.4, winning the overall General Effect category. The band placed just behind Central Middle School with a 64.7, and Minooka Jr. High with a 69.5. The Coalers placed third overall out of seven middle/junior high school bands.
Super exciting news from the parade was that the Coaler Colorguard received the Best Flags/Auxiliary Award for all middle schools. “This is a huge testament to having a great colorguard instructor, Ms. DeKruiff, and having new uniforms, equipment and flags,” Mr. Brimm said.
The sixth grade Cadet Band is preparing music for its Winter Concert that will take place on Thursday, Dec. 4. Be prepared for tunes like “Sleigh Ride” and “Rockin Around the Christmas Tree.”
Additionally, Mr. Brimm started a new exploratory class this year looking into a music technology program called SoundTrap. In this class, students are able to create beats and songs in individual projects or collaborating with friends. He shared it has been a great way to get students involved in a unique music making experience.
