What a night for Coal City Tennis. The court was absolutely electric for Senior Night on Monday, and the retiring stars did not disappoint, coming out swinging to lead the team to a 7-0 victory over St. Bede.
The starting seniors set the tone for the entire evening, showing why they are one of the strongest groups in years. In dominant fashion, senior Rebecca Hall at No. 1 Singles and senior Kyla Kohler at No. 2 Singles both shut out their opponents with perfect 6-0, 6-0 performances!
The doubles court was just as thrilling:
- Senior duo Camryn Planeta and Bridget Feeney fought through a tight first set for a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 1 Doubles.
- Senior Kamryn Hansen and partner Olivia Weatherbee clinched No. 2 Doubles with a solid 6-1, 6-3 victory.
- Senior Mackenzie Lovell and Junior Aubrey Jensen showed grit, winning No. 3 Doubles 7-5, 6-3.
But the highlight of the night belonged to newcomer, senior Sophia Spoto, at No. 3 Singles. After splitting sets, Spoto dug deep and battled through a thrilling third-set tiebreak, ultimately winning her match in a tense super tiebreak, 13-11!
Rounding out the sweep, juniors Lanie Winke and Kyla Stark delivered another dominating 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 4 Doubles.
“It was a truly unforgettable Senior Night, marked by powerful serves, deep talent, and a total team effort,” said Coach Matt Leman.
