The Coal City Community Unit School District #1 Board of Education met on Wednesday, July 9.The following items were up for discussion and action.
- The Board approved a resolution to transfer money from the working cash fund to operations and maintenance and ultimately to the capital projects fund. The transfers relate to the Intermediate School renovation work.
- A one year agreement with the Center for Special Education Services to provide school psychology services beginning Aug. 1 was approved.
- At the recommendation of Luke Krippel, director of student services, the Board approved renewing its agreement with Public Consulting Group, LLC for use of its EasyIEP modules for a three year period. The software offers programming support and assistance to administrators and educators with the planning, communication and monitoring requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act.
- Board members accepted the bid proposal of Step by Step Childcare Center for before and after school care.
- A school site donation of $7,135.24 was accepted from Grundy County.
- CSBO Jason Smith was re-appointed as the Title IX and Non-Discrimination Coordinator and Sex Equity Hearing Officer for the 2025-2026 school year.
- Luke Krippel was appointed as the liaison for student records for the Department of Children and Family Services for the coming school year.
- The district’s cardiac plan was approved, as was the threat assessment plan.
- Renewal of the district’s membership with TREES was approved at a cost of $1,32.25. Trees oversees grants for Career and Technical Education initiatives.
- A proposal from Raymond James & Associates, Inc. was approved to provide the district with its annual Continuing Disclosure Report at a cost of $1,750. The report is required of districts with outstanding bonds.
- A first reading of revised district policies was held.
- Certified staff employed for the 2025-2026 year are: Sofia Rankin, fifth grade teacher at the intermediate school, and Payton Hutchings, physical education teacher at the high school.
- Support staff employed for the coming school year include: one-on-one special education classroom aides Amanda Chen, Kayla Hyzy, Brittany Jett, Brandi Novak, Kylee Ziolkowski and Kelsey Monshau; classroom aides Ronette Ksiazak, Katie Sinkular, Reagan Ullrich, and Lauryen Pflibsen; Holly Kilgore-Hogg, reading aide, and Marlaina Figge, middle school/high school athletics’ secretary.
- Accepted the resignations of Kallista Helberg, fifth grade teacher; Janet Mahlfeldt, reading aide, and Debra Tapley, classroom aide.
- Approved the transfers of Corrine Kolnicki from food server at the high school to high school attendance secretary; Brian Elms from district custodian to maintenance; Danielle Meyer from middle school to high school nurse, and Holly Stellano from high school health aide to classroom aide at the middle school.
- Board members accepted the retirement requests of middle school Spanish teacher Veronica Aldridge, second grade teacher Shelby Skubic, and third grade teacher Constance Terrel, all effective at the close of the 2028-2029 school year.
- Extra-curricular resignations were accepted from Kassandra Marsala, seventh grade girls softball coach; Thomas Purcell, junior varsity baseball coach, and Nate Wills, assistant varsity baseball coach.
- At the recommendation of Rodney Monbrum, middle school athletic director, the Board approved the appointment of Kathryn Drey as B-Team soccer coach and Stephanie Vuscko as seventh grade softball coach.
- High school athletic director Brad Boresi recommended and the Board approved the coaching positions for Payton Hutchings, assistant varsity baseball coach; Kim Sondgeroth, winter dance team [poms] coach, and Emily Vandergrift, assistant girls soccer coach.
The Board of Education will meet in a special session at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23. The monthly study session will follow. The next regular monthly meeting of the Board will take place Wednesday, Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. All meetings will be held in the Administration Center Board Room.
