Summer athletic camps continue throughout the month of July with opportunities for youth to work with high school athletes and coaches in the sports of football, soccer, softball and baseball.
Youth football camp is open to students entering fourth to eighth grades and will focus on the fundamentals of the game including philosophy and terminology and player positions. Camp will be held next week—July 14-18 —in the Coal City High School Stadium from 10-11:30 a.m.
Softball camp for students heading into grades fourth to eighth grades will also take place next week at Coal City Middle School. Campers will report from 9-10:30 a.m. to work on offensive and defensive strategy, as well as team work to have success on and off the field.
Students entering sixth to eighth grade are invited to participate in soccer camp the week of July 21-25. Camp will focus on offensive skills including dribbling, shooting, crossing and finishing. Defensive skills including footwork, positioning, pressure and support. Along with goalkeeping, possession through movement and passing, goalie training, fun games for conditioning, small sided scrimmages daily and a 3 v 3 tournament. Camp will take place at the Coal City High School Soccer Field from 6:30-8 p.m.
Baseball camp is now open to students entering fifth to eighth grades. Daily emphasis will be on the fundamentals of the game. Monday is offensive day focused on hitting and batting; Tuesday is defensive day focused on infield and outfield play; Wednesday is team day with a focus on relays, cutoffs and run downs; Thursday is individual day with a focus on positions and contests, and Friday is an instructional scrimmage day. This year’s camp will be held July 21-25 at Cullick Field from 9-10:30 a.m.
