Cupcakes take flight

Coal City Intermediate School held its annual fifth grade cupcake launch on Wednesday, May 14. Science teacher Jennifer Rink reports the event was a success with many wonderful launchers.

The students could compete in one of two categories—traditional launchers and air powered launchers. The goal was to have the cupcake that flew the farthest across the elementary school campus.

Traditional launchers

First place—Becker Ejector by Aubree Becker with a distance of 162.6

Second place—Ka-Bluey by Jack Gagliardo and Leo Christensen with a distance of 121.5

Third place—Super Launcher by Skyler Crist and Genevere Diaz with a distance of 117.1

Air Powered launcher

First place—US Cupcake by Bryson Nichols and Landon Hardy with a distance of 80 feet.
