Senior baseball players honored on Senior Night

Senior members of the Coalers Baseball Team were recognized during Senior Night activities on May 5. Honored for their commitment and contributions to the baseball team were—Blaine Doss, Gabe McHugh, Hayden Clark, AJ Wills, and Dylan Young 

 

Blaine Doss is a four year member of the baseball team and this year has been a corner outfielder for the Coalers. Coach Greg Wills noted Blaine's pinch hit single in the seventh inning at Lisle keyed a six run inning to spark a big comeback for the Coalers and a win. As a Coaler, Blaine has also participated in golf. His future plans are to enroll in the maintenance program at Joliet Junior College. He was accompanied on Senior Night by his parents Crystal and Matt Doss. 

 

Gabe McHugh has made an impact on the Coalers Baseball Team since joining the program last year. Coach Wills said, “Gable has been a special addition to Coaler Athletics since he entered Coal City High School.” Gabe has been a fixture in the middle infield this season and is a top offensive performer and highly decorated player being recognized by the conference, local media and state for both athletic and academic achievements as a baseball player. Gabe has also played and earned All-Conference honors in football and basketball with the Coalers. On Senior Night he was escorted by his mom, Amy Campagnna. He will continue his academic and baseball  careers at Kankakee Community College. 

 

Hayden Clark is in his third season wearing a Coaler uniform. After missing most of the 2024 season due to an injury, CoaCh Wills said, “Hayden has been a versatile player for the 2025 Coalers spending time at all three outfield positions, as well as at third base and a stunt at shortstop. Hayden’s post high school plans are to attend Joliet Junior College to study criminal justice. He was accompanied on Senior Night by his parents Nicole Porterfeld and Jason Clark.

 

AJ Wills is a decorated four year member of the Coaler Baseball team  He has been a pitcher and third baseman for the Coalers the past two seasons. He’s also made appearances at first base and in the corner outfield positions. In his junior year, AJ was recognized by the ICE Conference, local meda and state for his athletic and academic accomplishments. AJ will be attending Aquinas College in Michigan majoring in data science and playing baseball. He was accompanied by his parents Heather and Nate Wills on Senior Night.

 

Dylan Young is a four year member of the Coalers Baseball Team and in the words of his coach Greg Wills, “has been a standout athletic performer in three sports.” Dylan has also participated in football and basketball as a Coaler. As a member of the baseball team, Dylan has spent most of his time at the varsity level playing middle infield with stints at designated hitter and first base. In addition to athletics, Dylan has been actively involved in National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Student Council, Drama Club and Coalers with Character. Escorting Dylan on Senior Night were his parents Brooke and Kevin Young.
