Burla part of state qualifying FFA team

Grundy Area FFA/Grundy Area Vocational Center Ag students participated in the Land Use Council 3 (LUC 3) Envirothon competition held at Precision Technology Institute in Pontiac on Tuesday, March 12. . Grundy Area FFA was named the champ of the FFA Division and will be advancing to the state competition in May at Allerton Park in Monticello.  The team placed third overall out of the Science Club Teams and FFA Teams.  They recognize both a Science Team and FFA Team winner.  LUC 3 encompasses six counties—Kendall, Grundy, Kankakee, LaSalle, Livingston, and Iroquois.

This means GAVC made it to the state competition two years in a row.  There were two repeat members—Bradley Burla, of Coal City, and Courtney Kloeckner, of Reed-Custer—but the rest of the team were newbies.  As a team, they take a written test and complete a practicum for aquatics, forestry, soils, wildlife and renewable energy.  The team received the highest score in the aquatics and soils divisions.

Burla and Kloeckner are part of a team that includes Margaret Dockery, of Reed-Custer High School, and Vivienne Forte and Cassie Fuhrman, of Minooka Community High School. Ev Gonzalez, of Minooka, is the team alternate.
