Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie

We know many people in the area still do not know about Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie and everything its 20,000 acres have to offer, including the over 20 miles of walking and biking trails that are free and open to the public year round. It is our hope more children and their families can learn about and experience the beautiful restored prairies and grasslands here at Midewin. Other learning opportunities here include looking for the herd of 78 bison (our national mammal), historical offerings such as visiting an old army bunker or farmstead foundation, and just plain enjoying the outdoors. All of this is free and waiting for visitors. Contact Julie Larsen 815-423-6370 julielarsen@fs.fed.us
