The Coal City Middle School Marching Coalers have been hard at work preparing for the Grundy County Corn Festival parade on Sunday, Oct.r 1 st and the Coal City High School Homecoming Parade on Friday, Oct. 6.
The band is generally marching outside, but on rainy days they are working in the classroom playing
“Land of 1,000 Dances” and marching in spot.
The middle school color guard has also been meeting before school to learn and perfect their routine for the parades. Director Andrew Brimm reports a few high school color guard members have graciously volunteered their time to teach and work with the middle school color guard.
Additionally, the sixth grade Cadet Band has already started preparing music for their concert in
November. The first few weeks of school were spent on fundamental exercises as a refresher
from the long summer. They are looking forward to performing a mix of holiday and Halloween
tunes for their Winter Concert on Thursday, Nov. 30.
Fifth grade Beginning Band members received their instruments last week. The musicians have been learning how to put together their instruments, how to clean them and the proper posture to play them. In the next coming weeks, the band students will begin learning the first five notes and playing short songs like “Hot Cross Buns” and “Mary Had a Little Lamb.”
