Welcome to the award-winning Coal City Theatre Department!

The Coal City Theatre Department is responsible for producing all theatrical productions within Coal City Community Unit School District #1. Over the last decade, the department has earned 29 nominations for the Illinois High School Musical Theatre Awards and has brought home five awards, including director Jack Micetich’s 2023 win for Best Direction of a Musical for his work on Anastasia, and the 2026 Best Production Award for Frozen: The Broadway Musical.

In 2026, the Coal City Theatre Department achieved another milestone, earning first place in the Musical Theatre Division of the Illinois High School Association Drama State Series.

In addition to the program’s accomplishments, individual students have also earned recognition at the state level. All-State Production alumni include Lexi Dearth, Jordan Olson, Mason Natyshok, Sam Vota, Derek Carlson, Stephen Byers, Jr., Kayla Connelly, Riley Nevin, and Gavyn Williams.
